CDF Gen Muhoozi Meets Israeli Envoy Gideon Behar
The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and newly accredited Israeli Ambassador Gideon Behar have pledged to deepen long-standing bilateral cooperation, underscoring decades of military, diplomatic and development collaboration as both countries seek to expand engagement in security, agriculture and technology.

The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has described Uganda’s relationship with Israel as “rock solid” following a strategic meeting with the newly appointed Israeli Ambassador to Uganda, Gideon Behar.

The meeting took place at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe on Saturday, shortly after Ambassador Behar presented his credentials to President Yoweri Museveni on Friday.

During the engagement, Gen Muhoozi emphasized the enduring nature of ties between the two countries, noting that cooperation spans several decades.

“We have been cooperating as friends and allies for many decades and we shall continue to do so in the years to come,” he said.

Ambassador Behar attended the meeting alongside his wife, Eke Behar, and the Honorary Consul of Israel to Uganda, Ishta Asiimwe Kutesa Muganga.

The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral collaboration, particularly in security cooperation, agricultural development and technology transfer.

Ambassador Behar expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to expanding partnerships in areas that support Uganda’s economic transformation and capacity building.

Officials noted that Uganda–Israel relations have evolved significantly over time, particularly after diplomatic strains in the 1970s.

Since the restoration of ties, both countries have steadily rebuilt cooperation through high-level visits and sector-based engagements.

Saturday’s meeting forms part of a broader pattern of continued diplomatic and military interaction between the two nations.

Gen Muhoozi has previously engaged with past Israeli envoys as part of ongoing efforts to consolidate defence and strategic cooperation.

Both sides underscored the importance of sustained high-level exchanges in maintaining momentum in bilateral relations, with leaders from the two countries continuing to prioritise dialogue aimed at mutual development and shared security interests.
